Keys to Creativity Summer Camp offerings for 2012:
June 25 – 29
9 – noon Make a Musical Instrument Out of a Gourd! Create a work of art that sounds as beautiful as it looks! Make a drum, a pair of maracas, a guiro. Learn how sound is produced through the craft of instrument-making. Students will be introduced to rhythmic notation and patterns. Instruments are yours to take home at the end of the week – after our final day of camp. All Ages
1 – 4pm Exploring International Music, Food and Customs, Cook! Eat! Listen to great music from all over the world! Learn about customs that seem funny, strange and interesting. Ages 7 – 12
July 9 – 13
9 – noon Musical Time Travel: Music History Discovery – Part 1, Travel through 1500 years as a spy gathering clues and solving mysteries of music history. Meet composers from the past and ask them questions. Create crafts and props for your many disguises. Learn dances from foreign countries. You will have so much fun on these adventures and your parents will be amazed at how much you know about history! Ages 6 – 12
1 – 4pm Intro to Guitar: Try out guitar before deciding on weekly lessons. Interested in rock, folk, or classical guitar? This camp will introduce you to the various styles and techniques! Our guitar teachers will amaze you with their skills and knowledge and help you take the first steps in learning to play the guitar. Ages 6 – 12
July 16 – 20

1 – 3pm Beach Beats: Rhythm Exploration for Kids! A 2-hour mini-camp for the very young! Using Vivaldi’s Four Seasons as a framework, children and parents will sing, dance, and play our way through the Four Seasons. Session 1, Ages 2 – 5
July 23 – 27
9 – noon Rock Band! Play in your first REAL rock band! Students will have the fun and experience of learning to play basic tunes on all of the essential instruments of a rock band: bass, guitar, and drums. Keyboards and synthesizers included as a bonus! YOU will perform at the end of the week! Ages 7 – 12
1 – 4pm Pop Power Chords, Ever wanted to be a part of your own Glee music club? Well, this is your chance! Learn how to play all your chords in a week so you can impress your friends with your ability to play any pop song you can imagine! Ages 9 – 17
July 30 – August 3
9 – noon How to Write Your Own Songs, If you can play – you can compose music! Try your hand at composition and write your first masterpiece this summer! The camp will end with a Composer’s Concert where each student’s piece will be performed and showcased! Ages 9 – 17
1 – 4pm Dueling Pianos: Playing Together with Multiple Keyboards, Tired of playing the piano by yourself? Partner up with some old and new friends and learn some duets, trios and keyboard ‘band’ music! This camp will focus on learning ensemble piano literature and end with a Dueling Piano Concert! Ages 9 – 17
August 6 – 10
9 – noon Intro to Piano, An introductory class which will have students performing by the end of the week! This fun class will teach the layout of the keyboard and the foundation of all music: RHYTHM! Students will learn to play together as a keyboard band. Ages 7 – 14
1 – 4pm Musical Time Travel: Part 2, If you liked the original Time Travel Camp – you will LOVE Part 2! We will travel to brand new places, meet new musicians and uncover hidden artifacts! This camp is open to experienced ‘spies’ who have already completed their first mission – OR brand new cadets ready for some undercover work! Ages 7 – 14
August 13 – 17
9 – noon Rock Band! Play in your first real rock band! Students will have the fun and experience of learning to play basic tunes on all of the essential instruments of a rock band: bass, guitar, and drums. Keyboards and synthesizers included as a bonus! YOU will perform at the end of the week! Ages 12 – 17
1 – 4pm STOMP! Find the Rhythm in EVERYTHING! This camp will have you playing drums of all types, percussions instruments, bottles, cans, buckets and much more! Have great fun while learning to read, write, hear and feel the foundation of ALL music: RHYTHM!! Ages 12 – 17

9:30-11:30 Beach Beats: Rhythm Exploration for Kids! A 2-hour mini-camp for the very young! If you could be an animal, what would you be? This week is sure to be filled with lots of movement as we explore animals in different habitats, using Saint-Saens’ classic work, Carnival of the Animals. Session 2, Ages 2 – 5

9 – noon Learn to Read Music with Games & Stories in ONE week! Need a refresher on your note-reading? Feel like you’ve forgotten everything you knew? Or just want to get ahead on starting music lessons? Great for students learning any instrument. Explore all the basics through interactive stories and crafts. Students will perform and videotape these fun stories! Ages 3 – 7
1 – 4pm Suzuki Piano – Learning the Basic Technical Moves, Get your fingers in shape this summer as you perfect the musical and technical details of your Suzuki pieces. This camp will help you polish and perfect piano Suzuki repertoire through listening and working with other friends from Book 1. The class will include Masterclass sessions with amazing Suzuki teachers in the Washington, D.C. area. Ages 3 – 7
